Lots

Lots to catch up on!! And I am so glad that song spoke to some of you- of course you're welcome to post it on your personal blogs!!!

We had a great weekend- of course it was over too soon. Had a sort of "pang of IF moment" while I was hanging up clothes and listening to the neighbors yell at their kids (our neighborhood is pretty much in the middle of what used to be a pasture, so voices carry really far....). I mean, God, I know that our kids will not be perfect and we will likely have to raise our voice at them at some point in their lives, but we are praying for a child to love and not one to yell at because they are squirming out of their car seat....

I took a test on Saturday (12dpo), and it was negative, so I pretty much had a chance to prepare myself for CD1, which finally came this morning. I am so thankful that I started on time, although I wasn't really expecting to. I am trying again to go cramp-pain-med-free this time!!! I'm hoping I can do it- I didn't get to acupuncture yesterday, but I'm hoping to go on Thursday.

And I wanted to thank you for all your comments and prayers as we decided whether to get a second opinion. We have decided to cancel the consult and stick with our current RE. We are encouraged that our RE has decided to change the protocol on his own (and who knows, he may have even consulted the other RE's about my case before talking to me about it). I really wanted to respect Mr. A's guidance on this one- he has been so supportive and awesome through all of these medicines and treatments, and so when he felt we could cancel the consult, that's what we went with.

(Funny story- well sort of funny anyway- my sister and her hubby just got news that he was selected to be part of the faculty on one of those seme.ster at sea programs in the fall of 2011. They were thinking of starting to try for kids this summer (GULP), but for the hypothetical child to be able to travel with them, he/she has to be at least 6 months old by August 2011. (I'll give you a minute to do the math.) Yes, that's right, they'd have to conceive by June (think, one or maybe two cycles) (ANOTHER GULP) for the baby to be old enough to get the shots required for an international tour. Mr. A and I were discussing this as we were making dinner last night, and he goes "Do they even know about how cycles go? Does she even know when she ovulates? Does she know about peak temperatures?!" HA!! SO stinkin cute. No wonder I married him!)

So anyway, my CD3 ultrasound is on Thursday, and I'm expecting to start stims that night like my previous follistim cycles. I'll be adding Ganirelix this time, but not until my follies are bigger. I'm so hopeful that I will have better follicle growth!!! I sort of feel like we cheated the system, since we said we were only doing IVF once. Although we didn't get to go through ER/ET last cycle, I still feel like we're getting a big second chance with this cycle. I know we didn't get an "official" IVF BFN, but it sort of feels that way, and before March, I would have expected we wouldn't get another shot, but here we are! We are definitely lucky.

Question for you: I have been taking progesterone suppositories after ovulation. Clearly my progeterone is still lackluster. My RE said he'd prescribe PIO if I wanted for this cycle after ER, but he doesn't think it necessarily works any better. I think I'd like to try it, but what would you do?

So I am estimating that I might be PUPO by Mother's Day. Does that mean I finally get a flower at church?

  1. I dunno about the progesterone. I've done both and I've read plenty on both. As usual, the experts don't seem to agree which form is best. I believe oral progesterone is the least preferred out of all the options. In most IVF cycles I've read about, most women seem to do the PIO injections. They take some gettng used to, but they're doable.

  2. I've heard most women doing IVF use the injections. I don't really know much about the difference, but it seems as though the injections would be stronger. Good luck! I really hope this is it for you. And yes, I absolutely think you deserve a flower at church on Mother's Day. It sounds cheesy, but I always say that all of us are already mothers at heart. xo

  3. I'M taking the progesterone suppositories now and they are gross. My doctor didn't really give me an option with the injections, so I don't know. I hope you get BFP by Mother's day!

  4. Glad you are getting a second chance at IVF...how exciting.

I am on both the PIO and the suppositories. I know this sounds crazy but I would almost prefer to just do the PIO shot for 2 reasons. You only have to do it every three days and its not as "messy" as the suppositories. It really doesn't hurt as bad as I thought it would. If you ice the area before the shot and then massage it and put heat on it afterwards its pretty easy.

  6. I did both. At my first clinic (big famous one in CO), they had me on the Prometrium suppositories. These were great. They could be taken orally, but as suppositories they get to the blood stream faster, so that way is preferred...and they aren't very messy as long as you lay down for a few minutes afterward.

At my local clinic they had me do the PIO shots only because they weren't familiar with the supps. After taking those shots everyday, I developed large hard welts and forced them to put me on the suppositories. The progesterone level doesn't look as high in blood work because of it not going directly into the bloodstream, but it's just the way it reads. In the end, I think I convinced them these worked just fine. I swear by them!

    Good luck!

  7. I love your positive attitude.

I would definitely do the PIO shots, although your doctor is right, there is so little evidence of it helping at all. But, it doesn't hurt, so I would go for it. :)

  8. I love that your hubs said that stuff about peak temps and ovulation. That gave me a big smile. He's a keeper! :)

Yay for CD1 showing up ON TIME and the start of the new cycle. I'm hoping with my whole heart that this is THE CYCLE for you. :) I have suuuuuuch high hopes. Sending tons of good vibes.

PS Never done the progesterone support so sorry I can't offer anything there!

  11. You have such a fantastic attitude, A. I'm sorry about CD1, but I'm excited for you to get a shot at IVF using this new protocol!

As for the progesterone, my doc was going to have me on PIO injects for IVF but I've been doing the suppositories with IUI. i'm not sure why they change it, I didn't ask.

  12. I have no idea about the pio shots. So sorry you got a bfn and af is here. I'm glad she came on time for you though so you could get started again.

  13. Yay for starting a new cycle! Glad you came to a decision you are comfortable with and so glad you and your RE are on the same page! Good luck at monitoring on Thursday! I am also on Ganirelix (for IUI) and will be taking Endometrin. My RE ordered me the PIO and told me I could take it if I didn't like the suppositories...sorry, I don't have any experience with them (yet) Wishing you a great cycle that ends with a BFP!!

  14. I don't know much about the progesterone, I just know that my RE has me on PIO after my retreival. So happy that you get a second chance at this and my fingers are crossed for lots of big follies to choose from!! :)

  15. Well, I'm so sorry to read about CD1 but am full of hope for this new cycle and your new protocol!! Your attitude as always is amazing! And for the supp, I've done both and am currently on the PIO shots. I've heard such awful things about them...but honestly they're not so bad. I do them every night and the first couple times my tush was a bit sore the next day, but now i'm use to it. And I definitely think its hitting me a bit harder than the vag supps because my boobs have never hurt so much or been so big. So something must be working!!

  17. I am so sorry about CD1, but happy you have another chance at an IVF cycle. I am hoping and praying with you that God will use it to bless you with a little one (or two!).

I was also on Ganirelix for my IVF cycles - I hope it works well for you. Grow follies, grow! My RE had me on PIO up until we saw our babies heartbeat and then switched us to suppositories. I really don't know if PIO works better or was just his preference.

Sending up lots of prayers for you!
