New...

What does an infertile couple with a cute as a button pup Banana do when they are sure that they won't get pregnant any time soon?

Go see about adopting another dog, of course!!!

Guess what his name is?

BERT!!!

Is that not the cutest thing you have ever heard?! Our dogs will be Banana and Bert!!! CUUUUTE!!

We (us and Banana) are going to the shelter to meet Bert tomorrow afternoon. There is no guarantee that they will like each other, so this is totally not set in stone. She is 4 and he is 6 months. Our neighbors got an 8-wk old puppy last week, and Banana is so great with him (I think she thinks she's his mumma), so we're hoping that she would be good with Bert, too. They are the same breed, so we're also hoping that he has her great disposition, too.

So all you two-dog families out there, give me tips on how to do this, if we do this!!

I dare us to get pregnant this month ;-) HA!!

  1. I wish I could give you tips about dog meeting dog, but we have a dog and a cat. The dog came first. The cat came a few years later as a kitten. We tried to make sure our pup had her own space, especially in the beginning. I think that's important. She was there first and needed to know she was higher in the pack order. It seems to have worked. They get along fine.

  4. This is the perfect transition from your last post. I think it's really, I dare God to get us pregnant this month - right? I suggest twelve straight months of increasingly high-stakes bets with God. You could finish with quitting your job, moving to a third-world country, or investing in extremely expensive real estate. And it will be so exciting for the other bloggers - as we figure out just outlandish we have to be before God zaps us with the Irony Baby!

  6. That is great news! We are a four pup family (yes, crazy I know) but K had two and I had one and we rescued one from euthanasia. It sounds as though Banana likes other dogs so that should really help. Also, you are taking him out of his environment which will help reduce any "territorial" issues. Another positive is that you are familiar with the breed so hopefully Bert (being young also) will have a simliar temperament. I really hope it works out! Banana and Bert! Too cute!

  7. LOL, awesome! I hope the meet and greet goes well.

I do know, from us having 2 dogs, that there's A LOT of sniffing involved. Just watch out if Banana's territorial, which doesn't sound like it but...the 2nd dog we got is very territorial. Funny.

    And yes!! pics please!

  11. Two dogs is exciting! But everything is twice as expensive (boarding, food, toys), but you get twice the love though. Just remember to reward reward reward Banana for good behavior. Especially good interactions with Bert. Getting Bert needs to be a good idea and most dogs equate good ideas with food. Call me and we can talk specifics. There's a five year gap between Dave & Les.

  13. Hey--how exciting is it that I get to comment about something that I actually know about?!?!? Ha!
I have 3 male dogs. 2 outside, and 1 inside. The 2 outsiders are both HUGE dogs. (great dane & bloodhound). They get along great about 99% of the time, but I think a lot of that has to do with my great dane being a puppy when I brought him home. He wasn't a threat and now they have grown up together. The only time I have seen them fight is when I thought it would be a good idea to give each of them a bone. Bloodhound buried his and then stole my great dane's and the fight was on. So, my advice would be to not do that unless you can seperate them while they eat. Hope everything works out. Dogs are wonderful!!!
