Feeling better

Tuesday, July 12, 2011

I really appreciate all your support and comments! After a great yoga class this morning (bourbon girl was absent), I am back to feeling confident that I will continue to have a happy and healthy pregnancy and little girl. Yay!!

My midwife gave me a diet to follow three days prior to my 3-hr test (on Friday morning), so I am following it from now till Thursday. It is kind of counter-intuitive (has you eat at least 7 servings of starch, 4 of fruit, and 2 of dairy per day), because I would think that I wouldn't want any sugars floating around my system before the test, but I guess if you don't eat carbs leading up to the test, your body sort of forgets to process sugars and doesn't make enough of the enzyme necessary to process the drink during the test. I kind of took it easy on carbs/sugars the day before my 1-hr... I wonder if that is why I didn't pass?!

We're getting very excited for my sister to come paint the murals in the baby's room!!! (Check out her etsy page here http://www.etsy.com/shop/brigittemarie - she has some beautiful stuff and does an amazing job with custom paintings, too!) I can't wait to show you pictures of the end result!! I know it is going to be great!

It's going to be a scorcher here today- will definitely be using the pool after work today!

Oooh, is that your sister who sells her prints on etsy? I LOVE her stuff!!! I was going to order one, but someone beat me to it! Haha. She's amazing and I'm sure your nursery will be GORGEOUS!!! :) And that totally makes sense about eating sugar leading up to the test. I was going to try and cut all carbs/sugars before my test, but ended up having a bad couple days that required large amounts of chocolate, so I gave up on it... maybe it actually helped me out? Good luck!!! :)

It's scorcher here today too! (We're in NC.) You and your belly are lucky to have that pool, girl!!!

And that's SO weird about the deal with the sugars. I would have totally cut out all sugar before the test thinking that would help. That's very counterintuitive.

By the way, most of my friends (in my memory) failed the 1-hour and passed the 3-hour no problem. You will kick that test's butt!

Sorry I'm only chiming in now. I have GD and I have to say it's been super easy to manage. I hope you pass the 3hr, but if you don't you'll settle into a plan that works for you too. I'm barely diabetic. I've been able to eat pretty much whatever I want including fruit juice (prune juice is a necessity), cereal, ice cream and fruit -- the latter three are the only things I crave -- without having wacky sugars. The 4x a day finger poking gets tiring, but it's not too bad and I'm happy to get confirmation I'm not overwhelming the babies with sugar. Good luck!
