You are what you eat

Tuesday, January 04, 2011

I hope this cliche is correct, because on the carton of (organic) eggs I bought today there is a big red "FERTILE EGGS" stamped on the top! Hehe :) I refuse to answer if this was the reason I paid $0.50 more for them...

But in all seriousness, I think my body has gotten used to eating organic/naturally. We ate at Outb.ack on Sunday night, and I had some blo.omin onion, and boy could I tell that I had had an unhealthy meal!!

Our freezer is now stocked with a quarter of a grass fed, all natural, no chemical anything'ed local cow! Moo :) We have many steaks and several roasts and a few other packages (cubed steak, etc.), and a ton of ground beef. I will be making burgers by the dozen this summer, so make a point to stop by sometime!!

One of my goals for 2011 is to go to the farmer's market more often for organic locally grown veggies, hopefully every week. My brother in law got me these awesome reusable produce bags for Christmas, and I can't wait to use them!

AND, last week, I made and froze two dinners worth of homemade pasta, and two dinners worth of homemade sausage ravioli! I'm very excited for those dinners!! And with my mixer attachment, making these things wasn't hard at all!

I used to think that eating this way was just for show or just a fad or just for people with dredlo.cks. But we have seen positive changes since we have started watching where the food we eat comes from!

This is probably a boring post. But I'm very excited about the changes we've made to our diet in the last half of 2010. Definitely keeping the trend going!

How are you going to be eating in 2011? What (if any) changes are you making and why?

Hey- I just found your blog through a mutual friends'. Good post! I have a goal to find a good farmer's market this summer...I live in WI, so finding fresh, local produce is difficult...and nonexistent in the winter! I look forward to following you.

I applaud your effort, even as I sit here and polish off my box of junior mints feeling guilty. Haha. Do you think they make organic chocolate, what about Dr. Pepper?

But seriously, we talk all the time about filling our freezer with a whole cow like that. I think it's GREAT that you are making these changes... and I WISH I could drop by for a burger, or some of that pasta! Mmmmm.

That is so cool that you are doing all of that. Awesome job!

It is so true! The way I feel after eating well is night and day from how I feel after eating crap. Even GF crap.
Real food fuels the body, provides nutrition, helps your brain function properly. The Primal Diet guy says that with proper diet/nutrition most people can reach 90% of their genetic potential - the other 10% can be reached with exercise. 90%!!!
So awesome.

I may just stop by for one of those burgers...

I'm impressed with all the changes you've made. I love making good food from scratch (I intend to continue enjoying Pizza Hut and Reeses as the occasion arises and not feeling guilty, but I can't but be impressed by your commitment!).

Good for you! Hubby and I have started buying organic more often...it really is scary to think what they put in food these days.

I will be trying to eliminate fried foods...I had my cholesterol checked and it's not good...I'm only 31! Oops...

Best of luck to you:)

That all sounds delicious. You're my hero. You're doing exactly what I hope to. 2011 has started out rocky in terms of diet; I've let myself have more junk than I should. This year I hope to continue to cut out processed foods and make more from-scratch items. We have a garden in the summer where I get my veggies from and I do buy at local farms when I need other items, but I'd like to find a good co-op for some other items like potatoes.

I love farmer's market and admit I tend to forget about them during the winter. I need to go more often as I'm planning to incorporate more veggies in my diet!

Man, I wish I could afford grass-fed beef but it's too expensive. But, I'm cutting back in places to buy a few pieces here & there. It's so worth it!

Love this post!

My goal is to eat less junk food! Okay, this is my goal every New Year's, but I always fail miserably! I decided 2011 is the year I'm going to follow through. :)

We buy grass-fed beef, too. Once you try it, you never go back (intentionally, anyway! lol ). It is soooo good!
